3 GUYS HELPS FIGHT FOOD WASTE

Happy Winter, New Yorkers! We’d like to take a moment to chat with you about something we care very much about.

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that far too many people either haven’t got enough to eat, or haven’t got access to healthy nutritional options. Another unfortunate reality is the fact that every day, all across America, an astonishing amount of food goes to waste. As NPR reports, “one-third of all the food produced each year for human consumption is never eaten.” Meanwhile, as 3 Guys’ own Phil Penta says, “there’s a lot of red tape involved in trying to do good.” But here at 3 Guys, we take our role in the community seriously! This is why, as Phil says, “we’re doing our part to combat food waste while trying to help people in need.”

In our efforts to help make better use of food that might otherwise go to waste, we’ve lined up with a nonprofit organization called RLC, which stands for Rescuing Leftover Cuisine. Here’s how it works: they gather donations of unused food and produce, and distribute it to places which serve the underserved, like food banks and soup kitchens. We’re proud to say we donate, on average, 200-300 pounds of unused produce to RLC each day. In fact, in the month of September, 3 Guys donated over 5,900 pounds of produce, contributing to over 4,900 meals!

With the holiday season around the corner, it’s time to begin reflecting on the things for which we’re thankful–and the people who might be less fortunate than we are. At 3 Guys, we’re excited to increase our contribution to the health and well being of our community. If you’d like to get involved, check out RLC’s website and see how you might help unused food go to those who need it most. And drop into our storefront to find fresh, healthy produce to keep you and your own family healthy!
